Marina is a character, a mermaid and the tritagonist from the animated series, Zig and Sharko.
She is very sweet and child-like in nature. She is constantly hunted by Zig who desires to eat her. Her bodyguard/best friend Sharko, however is always there to ruin his plans. She seems blissfully unaware of Zig's intentions, as she is generally friendly whenever she sees him.
She is a very good singer, but Sharko doesn't like to hear her. She often plays volleyball or table-tennis with Sharko. Sharko isn't the only person seeking her affections. King Neptune also loves her, and tries to buy her affection with lavish gifts. A giant male manta ray tried to woo her in the episode, "The Challengers".
Although normally kind-hearted, Marina can be somewhat selfish at times, and cries when she doesn't get her way. She's also shown to have a temper when pushed to her limits.
Marina loves to try new things, and is always dabbling in different areas throughout the show. She has tried her hand at nursing (Nurse Marina), being a flight stewardess ("Mermaid in the Sky"), and a lifeguard ("Save the Hyena!").
Nonetheless, Marina is compassionate, polite, and willing to do anything to help her friends in need.
Marina is a slim, slender, curvaceous mermaid (which she is part human, and part fish) with tanned skin with dark red hair, pink lips, cerulean-blue eyes, and a green scaly tail. Also, wears a green bra and a yellow starfish in her hair.
Marina maintains a good relationship with most of the other characters, even Zig, as she seems to be oblivious to the fact he wants to eat her.
In the episode "A Tale of Two Legs," it is strongly implied that Marina was born on Zig's island to a mermaid mother, human father and a baby mermaid son.
Powers and Abilities
Unlike almost many other mermaid characters, Marina is able to function out of the ocean without difficulty, using her flippers as feet. In addition to her rock Marina has a house presumably nearby on the sea floor, which she shares with Sharko. Marina enjoys singing, which Sharko dislikes. Nevertheless, her singing is popular with the local marine life and often has a Siren effect on passing ships.
- Marina is inspired by Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid franchise, who had a different singing voice (by actress, Jodi Benson).
